Where were you born.

Toronto, Canada.

Where do you live now.

Brooklyn, New York.

Where are your mother and father from and if you want to a line about them.

My mother is from Singapore and my father was born in Malaysia. They both migrated to Canada at a very young age.

A couple of things you have done previousely  or do now and the inspiration and reasons for doing them.

Currently I love climbing, indoors as well as outdoors. I’ve been climbing for about 3 years now and I love the community as well as the adventures it can take you on. I love how much I’ve learned about my body and how much Ive learned in general about the sport. What I love the most is how there is no mold or requirement of strength or body type in order to climb, and that anyone can do it and enjoy it.

Causes close to you heart.

As a cancer survivor, I work with a non profit based out of NY called “Tina’s Wish”. They fund research for early detection of ovarian cancer. Currently there is no  early testing for this desease, and that is how it’s gotten its reputation as the “silent killer”.  Because of my personal experience with ovarian cancer, I’ve learned how important and impactful it would be, and all the lives it could potentially save of all women around the world.

What is beauty to you.

Beauty to me is being your most authentic self, loving and embracing it. And in turn, sharing that energy with others.

What do you find beautiful in others.

Similar to the answer above, when people show up as so unapologetically themselves. Not trying too fit in or trying to be “cool” or someone that they’re not. I find that authenticity and realness so beautiful in others.

How do your thoughts about ageing and beauty.

"A face without wrinkles is like a life without laughter”.

What gives you strength in life.

The small moments like cuddling with my dog, or sharing a laugh with my friends, eating a home cooked meal or watching a colorful sunset, or seeing a full moon.

what gives you your sense of identity.

My scars and my tattoos. They’re so specific to me and my life experiences. I often treat my tattoos as passport stamps for journeys that I want have with me forever. A good way to get to know me is to ask me about my tattoos.

What do you do to keep in shape and how often.

I don’t like to put too much attention on “keeping in shape” for aesthetics. I focus on how I can train to be a better climber. I climb 3-4 times a week and strength train and practice yoga the other days of the week.

What do you do to keep your mind in shape.

Doing things that fulfill my heart and soul. Putting energy into things that I love. Having deep and meaningful conversations with my loved ones. That will always be healing for me.

What do you do to look after your skin.

Moisturize!

What little things do you buy just for you even though they may never be seen or known to others.

I really love collecting souvenirs when I travel to a new place. I often get magnets, postcards, clothing and even climbing gear like carabiners. I think I have a habit of associating memories to these physical objects. Similar to how I treat tattoos, I like to have these small things as memories of different times in my life, and keep them with me for as long as I live.

What little things do you do just for you even though they may never be seen or known to others.

I’m definitely a creative soul. I like to paint, to draw, to dance, to sing, to write. I have many small hobbies that keep my creative spark alive. Lately I’ve been obsessed with throwing pottery, in the past I’ve made jewelry. But I don’t often share my work because I see it as something I do just for me.

What is one of the most important things for you in life whether its something you have or are looking to achieve.

One of the most important parts of life for me, is to always be growing and becoming a better version of myself. Which I don’t think I’ll ever actually achieve but the journey and the challenges and adversity, are what I welcome because I know that those are what will shape me into the person I’m meant to be.

A moment in your life that had a big impact on who you are now.

The most prevalent one would be surviving cancer in 2019. Working in the modeling industry for so many of my young and impressionable years, made me believe that my value was in my looks. Chemotherapy and surgeries drastically changed my appearance so much that when I looked in the mirror, I couldn’t recognize who I was. But soon I learned to love the woman I had become because of that adversity, I learned to embrace that this is who I’m meant to be. I learned to place less value on surface level things like my hair or having perfect skin. I learned how to prioritize my health and my peace. I learned to see challenges as an opportunity to become stronger and that I’m a lot tougher than I think that I am.

Any other thoughts on health, mental health, age, beauty, life you would like to share.

We only have one life and one body. You don’t always get to decide what happens to it, but we can always decide what to do after.
